…but before you do that, scroll down to my bio and learn some more about me. (Because who wouldn’t want to learn more about me?)
Who is Michael Sopczynski? What’s his whole deal? Does he actually expect people to pronounce that last name? Folks, you’ve come to the right place. My place. I’m an accomplished copywriter, screenwriter, and associate creative director with over a decade of acclaimed work in marketing and entertainment arts.
But if I had to put those titles through a hydraulic press and squeeze them down to one, then I’m first and foremost a writer. As a writer, I’ve racked up XP in entertainment marketing, primarily in the gaming space, plus television screenwriting, narrative podcasting, and social media copy. No matter the creative arena, my adaptability has turned me into a kind of Swiss Army Scribe, sometimes pulling out tools I didn’t know I had until I needed them. (How often does one use the wire stripper on their swiss army knife? It’s sorta the same when creating TikTok videos for Fortnite. Sorta.)
My writing career began at the legendary (and dearly departed) Ant Farm, where I worked my way from a young-punk, chain-smoking runner to a young-punk chain-smoking senior writer, sharpening my copywriting, trailer scripting, and high-concept ideation skills for ad campaigns of major AAA video game franchises that included Call of Duty and Lego Harry Potter.
I embarked on an adventure in television writing as a staff writer on Person of Interest, co-writing a half dozen episodes during its 2011-2016 run. Along with a crash course in creative production and problem solving (i.e. “How not to make the NYPD or Jim Caviezel mad at us while filming all over New York City like crazy people.”) I gained a deeper understanding of the writing craft and learned the process of creative intention.
As the world of advertising continues to evolve into… well whatever it’s evolving into… My philosophy of creative intention is still the engine driving every project I undertake. With an arsenal of creative tools accumulated from years of being a swiss army scribe, I strive to create purpose-driven work that’s always true to a brand’s voice, a character’s nature, or an audience’s needs.
